Happy 4th Birthday!

Happy 4th Birthday, Annalisa. She turned 4 last week, and I can't believe it. One of the highlights was Mamie coming to take her to get her ears pierced. I think she has shown them to everyone. She chose cute little Hello Kitty earrings and is very proud of them.
Another highlight was her princess dress up party. I had so much fun planning fun activities and doing a variety of crafts for it. We painted nails, got tattoos, played "pin the crown on the princess", decorated wands and crowns, and broke a pinata. It was so much fun, and I truly enjoyed it. Often I feel stressed while "playing hostess" that it is hard for me relax, but praise God this time was different. I even woke up in the night and found myself reminiscing over all the fun.
Annalisa-you are getting so big. You are such a good big sister and a huge help to me. You play well w/ Daniela and entertain her a lot. Some of your favorite things to do are play "mommy" with her, play in your bed together, and "read" books to her. You like to read her the Bible and you make me smile as you tell her God is faithful and powerful and is coming back to take His people. I know you are excited about your newest baby sister coming in a couple months although I'm not too sure Daniela is :)

So last year I had the great idea to plant a couple cucumber plants b/c we like cucumbers. I asked Massy about it and he kinda got into it. I just wanted to throw the plants in 1 of the flower beds and be done with it, but he had other ideas. He dug up a lot about 4x8 (about the size of a twin bed), built a raised bed, and bought quite a few plants.
Guess what....nothing came up. We planted too late:(
After talking to quite a few friends who have gardens, (I never knew until recently all these people have gardens. Every time I mention it I feel like somebody chimes in and tells me they have one too--who would have known?) we weren't ready to give up and decided to try it again this year. After asking 100's of questions to some friends...we followed all the right steps and what do you know???
This evening Massy sent Annalisa in to bring me the first tomato. I have to admit I'm a little surprised but also excited. We also tried cucumbers, strawberries (Annalisa & Daniela each have one), oregano, parsley, 2 types of cucumbers and basil.

So yes, this is old news but as you can see I'm way behind. Daniela has been "mobile" for over a month now. It started with the army crawl but this past week she's been doing a little of a "regular" crawl too. She's also been pulling up every opportunity she gets. They moved her into the "crawler" room at church b/c she is all over the place and into everything. I don't remember Annalisa getting into as much trouble as Daniela. However, that could be because I didn't mind as much because I was just glad that I could finally put her down w/o crying. It's been the opposite with Daniela because so far she's been a really good and quiet baby (despite a rough 1st couple weeks). Annalisa helps with that too. She is so good at entertaining her and always wants to play with her. Watching the 2 of them is a lot of fun.

She turned 3 almost a month ago. I can' t believe it. It was a very simple but fun "ladybug" party. We had pizza and cupcakes at the park down the street. My parents (Mamie & Papa Bill) came in for a long weekend, which made it extra special. HAPPY 3RD BIRTHDAY, BABY GIRL! Time is passing way too fast. Speaking of time passing too fast--Daniela is crawling and moving around everywhere and is even pulling up to a standing position. Ughh!

We met Hughes and Jenny at the mall yesterday. So much fun. Audrey, Annalisa, & Ryder really enjoyed going down the slide together. Audrey even put both of them in her lap. I'm sad the middle picture is so blurry b/c all three of them were looking at the camera so it could have been a great picture. Oh well! I'm not a perfectionist, Hughes so I'll just post it anyway and saw who cares :)

Yes, it's been a while since I've blogged but my excuse is that my New Year's resolution to do 1 per month was for 2009 and not 2010. At any rate, we've been busy and having fun. Daniela will be 4m old tomorrow and found her toes this week. This evening we went on a walk and she even figured out how to get them in her mouth. Not only does she suck her toes, but we think she's also going to be a thumb sucker. It's the cutest thing to see her suck her little thumb. I think Massy has a video of it on utube somewhere. Annalisa was sick last week w/ a fever of 103. We took her to the doctor and they thought it was a bladder infection so put her on antibiotics, but it turned out it wasn't . I guess it was just a virus. I do have to say I was a little worried b/c thank God neither of our kids get sick much. I think that may have been the first fever Annalisa has had in the last 12 months.
My parents also came to visit weeekend. Annalisa, Daniela, my mom, and I celebrated a belated mother's day at a cute little cafe in downtown Katy. We also went to the Greek festival and had delicious food and Mamie ("grandma") of course let Annalisa go on a few rides. Her favorite was the big slide that she went on 5 times and even climbed all the way up by herself.

Surprise! Massy's 82 year old grandma came from Italy to see us over spring break. Massy knew his parents were coming but did not know about Nonna Luciana. His mom called a couple months back and asked what I thought. Of course I said sure and what do you know she came. She had never even been on a plane until a couple years back when she went to Paris w/ some friends. I think that was also her first time even out of the country. After that, she got over her fear and decided to make the trip all the way here to see him and of course meet Daniela. Who would have ever guessed?

Annalisa is a big sister! Daniela was born on Jan 26, 2010 and weighed 8lbs and 10oz. She's doing better now than she was at first. The day after we left the hospital we had to go back to the Dr. because she wasn't going to the bathroom and lost a pound in 3 days (even though she seemed to be eating well). The Dr. wasn't sure what to think and thought she may have had some type of blockage in her stomach so he sent us to the ER at TX Children's for a chest x-ray. Praise God it came back normal, but they do think she has acid reflux. She cries a lot especially after eating and it makes us sad to see her in pain. They told us at the hospital there isn't a whole lot they can do (it takes time and hopefully she'll outgrow it as her muscles in the digestive system develop) and just to try and make her as comfortable as possible when she is crying. She's on prevacid and it seems to be helping to some degree. The good thing is that she's going to the bathroom regularly and is gaining weight although she still seems to cry quite a bit. At any rate, it could be worse and we are thankful for our newest little girl.

Can you believe it? Unfortunately, Massy's school didn't get out early but he still came home in time to make his snowman w/ the neighbors. I have to admit I stayed inside most of the time and only came out to take some pictures; it was pretty cold and I don't have a jacket that I can close b/c my stomach is too big :) Massy was laughing at the kids because they didn't know how to make a snowman. I have to admit I didn't either and I lived in Alaska!!

Annalisa dressed up as a little black cat and was adorable. One of her favorite songs that she loves to sing is "gatto nero" in Italian (black cat in English). She only knows the main chorus but she sings it over and over. She got a lot of use out of the costume (she cried when we took it off of her) and halloween night was the 3rd time she was able to wear it. We went to a little halloween party last week, and then halloween afternoon we went trick or treating at a shopping center close by and then to end the evening we went to a huge festival at church. Annalisa had a great time. She was able to do so many things and just loved all the inflatable slides and obstacle courses. She's usually one of the smallest ones on their but it doesn't stop her. She also loves balloons and in the picture above the "tall man" was making balloon animals. He made her a blue poofy poodle. She just stood there and stared at him for the longest time. She didn't know what to make of his height. It was funny to watch her!

Annalisa turned 2 years old a couple weeks ago (Sep 23). It's been a little crazy around here as a lot is going on. On a quick sidenote...we are selling our house next week. Closing is on Wednesday which I'm kind of sad about. It all happened so fast and we didn't anticipate this. It's a huge blessing to not own 2 houses plus the first people who looked at our house are buying it so that made things real easy however, we also haven't found a house to move to which makes things a little more difficult. But amazingly enough God has given us a peace about it. There are times when I feel stressed/anxious, but for the most part I'm just taking it in stride.
At any rate, back to Annalisa's birthday...So, we celebrated her birthday w/ a small little group at Memorial City Mall carousel. I think Annalisa enjoyed and she finally actually "got" that it was for her. We kept telling her days before that her birthday was coming, but she was confused because she'd been to 3 friends' birthdays in the last 2 weeks so she was still stuck on singing to them. She loves to sing "Happy Birthday". She's been singing it for a long time (several months). It's funny because as time passes it gets more and more clear. This summer she kept singing it in Italy and you could barely tell that it was Happy Birthday. Now it's very clear that it's "Happy Birthday" although the words are all still jumbled together. Venezia

We went to Venezia with Massy's Aunt & Uncle (Guido & Francesca). We left Annalisa at home w/ her nonni. Guido & Francesca are excellent hosts and tour guides. They know the city well and took us all over. They used to live in Venice and still live very close but on another island, Lido. They showed us several places including , a bar Francesca worked at when she first moved to Venice at age 14 (she had to leave her home at 14 years old and go to work--she didn't even get to go to high school), the school Guido's mom used to work at, an apartment they used to live in, and several other neat places. We had a great lunch at a very quaint place, stopped for gelato and coffee. We walked a lot and normally it would be a piece of cake except for the fact that I'm pregnant so I have to go the bathroom nonstop and bathrooms are definitely not accessible like they are here in the US. At any rate, it was a lot of fun and I'm glad we were able to go see Venice and spend time with them.

Last night we went to a super fun birthday and even better we remembered the camera. Braden Brown, our Sunday school teacher's son turned 3!! They had a great party and even got a water slide and pinata for the kids. It was a green and black "army man" birthday and Braden seemed so happy. I love the fact that he had to have his goggles on when playing on the waterslide. Annalisa especially loved the slide; she couldn't climb up it so Massy had to lift her every time. She probably went down it around 20x's and even went down head first after watching her friend Allison try it.

Look closely at Annalisa's dress. A friend made it for her before she was born and I just love it. It's white w/ little A&M seals and "gig 'ems" all over it. It's really cute.

So Jennifer & I made our yearly trip to Aggieland. Jennifer was one of my roomates & best friends at A&M; she lives in Hamilton, TX (a small town outside of Waco). We meet once a year at A&M since it is about 1/2 way for us and of course we rarely ever make it back so we both are excited to see how much it has changed. Her daughter, Presley and Annalisa are about 6 months apart so we tell them they are future roomates class of '30. It's our goal to get a picture of them every year until they graduate from high school. (I'll put up last year's pic in another post.) We did decide this year that we might need to make 2 trips though 1 with kids (for our pic) and 1 without so we can actually enjoy each other :)

I have to brag on Massy for a short minute. He finally did it. He's been trying to get it for quite a few years now and it finally happened. The funny thing is that Saturday morning he woke up and told me, "I'm going to work outside today and clean up some of the flowers because I'm going to get yard of the month today". Later on that afternoon a lady came to the door and when I went to answer it she said, "Do you mind if I leave this in your yard?". I was so happy for Massy and yelled at him to come out. I told her what he said that morning, and she told him he needs to go to the corner store to buy a lottery ticket.

Annalisa is just like her Papa' in the way that they both love flowers. Massy loves to spend time outside in the yard. He also loves to plant flowers and I have to brag that he does a great job (the flowers above are all Massy's). Massy has taught her to pick flowers and smell them so every time we go for a bike ride she wants to pick everyone's flowers. The bad part about it is Massy lets her!!

Cancun

So we just got back from Cancun on Wednesday night. It was our first vacation away from Annalisa. My mom came in from Kansas City to watch Annalisa (thanks again, Mom). I think they had a lot of fun and we came home to a bunch of new toys for Annalisa (that will have to be a later post). I have to say I was a little apprehensive before going, but it was a great trip away and it was so nice to leave Houston last weekend with the cold & rainy weather we were having here. In just 2 hours we went from cold and rainy to beautiful/sunny 82 degree weather. Massy texted my mom and emailed her a couple times to make sure everything was going well and things seemed fine. Prior to leaving Cancun, I had talked to a couple of friends who had just gone on vacation for the first time w/o their kids. They also were nervous and immediately when they came back I asked them how it was to be away. Both surprisingly told me it was fine and they really enjoyed themselves. I'm thankful for their responses because God used it to give me a peace about going and when we were there I felt fine. I knew that it was ok to leave Annalisa and it was also ok to enjoy myself and I didn't need to feel guilty for being away. Needless to say, below are some pics from our trip. The highlight of our trip was that we finally were able to do a zip line (they wouldn't let us take any pictures). Ever since I saw the zip line through the jungle on Survivor, I wanted to do it. As soon as Massy & I saw that was one of the excursions we immediately signed up. The other highlight of our trip is that of course we stayed at an all-inclusive restaurant which is why you also won't see any pics of us in our swimsuits. They aren't pretty, but the food & drinks were definitely worth the calories!!

New Year's Resolution--it's not too late

I do a women's Bible study on Tuesdays, and a few weeks ago our Bible study leader asked us if we had any fun/not serious resolutions. I hadn't made one because I really couldn't think of one. Of course there are several things I want to change, but I also wanted it to be realistic. So, I finally just thought of a New Year's Resolution even though it's February. Hughes, you'll be proud of me (Hughes is the one who started this blog for us, and our family is grateful to her). I'm going to post a blog every month. Massy, does this make you so happy? He's really into this blogging thing and I think this will be a nice surprise for him.

If you haven't been to Clay's for lunch it's definitely a place to go if you have kids. As I write this it almost sounds like a commercial for Clay's, but I promise I'm not getting a cut from them. I went with some of my mom friends, Angie, Charlotte, & Nara. We had the most relaxing time. While we sat outside and ate on the deck, a peacock came right up to us at our table. I didn't even think to take a picture!! After, the kids played in the sandbox and looked at the goats, horses, and chickens, and we were actually able to talk and take pictures. Angie, made me laugh when she said you can tell we don't get out much b/c we went crazy taking pictures. You would have thought we were on a safari in Africa!! I guess she must be right b/c I'm actually going to the trouble to put it on the blog. Although, I have to admit Massy posted the pics he called me over just to do the writing.

Christmas & New Year's 2009
Every year Massy's family comes for a couple of weeks at Christmas. We have a really good time and get a lot done. Massy's dad cleaned our gutters, his brother washed both our cars inside and out and cleaned behind our garage, and his mom cooks plus gives Annalisa constant attention so needless to say Massy & I just kind of lay back and relax. What a way to start the new year!
On New Year's Eve, we took a midnight dip in the jacuzzi. Can I saw it was really cold on the way from the jacuzzi to the shower!! I really didn't want to go in, but everyone kept hassling me so I finally said ok. Also, judging from the picture you can see that none of us tan during the winter. Maybe we should consider it??
On Christmas Eve, we all went to church and though Massy's family can't understand they still came. Marco & I spent most of the time outside feeding Annalisa and entertaining her since there was no childcare and she didn't last long in the service. I was sad I missed most of Greg's sermon, but afterward the family took a pic outside that I really like. The funny thing was that I spent most of the month of December looking for black dress shoes for Annalisa's Christmas dress (isn't it pretty, our Sunday school teacher's family gave it to her as a birthday gift) at resale shops. It killed me to buy a new pair when chances are she'll only wear them a few times. I never found any so I bit the bullet and bought them new and after about 3 minutes in church she took them off and much preferred to run around in her tights. Worst of all, I even forgot to put them on for our picture!!

Our Thanksgiving & Christmas

I can't believe it's already came and gone. We usually do Thanksgiving with my family and also exchange Christmas gifts since Massy's family is usually here in December. My mom and dad drove in from Kansas City, and my brother Tim flew in from San Diego. We had a pretty good time although Annalisa had a rough time. For some reason she was really grumpy and although I've been saying she's "teething" for the last 3-4 weeks I'm not too sure anymore. I keep trying to check her but nothing is popping through. Who knows??
Saturday night Tim, Massy, Annalisa and I tried to meet up with Annalisa's friend, Josh to go to the tree lighting and teddy bear parade at La Canterra, but it rained. Although we missed most of it we were at least able to get some good pics!

Avete ragione...era un po' che non vi facevo vedere un video di Annalisa. Fra una cosa e l'altra non ho mai trovato il tempo di mettere assieme qualcosa. Nel frattempo, Annalisa ha imparato a camminare da sola. Adesso nessuno le sta piu' dietro. Non sta mai ferma e non vuole quasi mai stare in braccio. Tutti ci dicevano che una volta imparato a camminare non avremo un secondo di pace ed e' meglio che impari a camminare il piu' tardi possibile. Ma devo dire che con Annalisa e' stato uno sollievo che abbia iniziato a camminare. Infatti prima non voleva mai rimanere un minuto a giocare da sola, e voleva sempre stare in braccio. Adesso invece e' diventata molto piu' indipendente e quindi ci sentiamo molto piu' liberi. Non preoccupatevi, la teniamo sempre sott'occhio!

Un Anno Dopo

Sabato siamo andati alla sagra della zucca. La stessa sagra in cui l'anno scorso Annalisa aveva fatto la sua prima comparsa. Devo dire che nonostante l'anno scorso era la prima volta che uscivamo di casa con Annalisa e percio' l'eccitazione era molto evidente, quest'anno ci siamo divertiti molto di piu'... sopratutto Annalisa. Infatti un anno fa Annalisa non aveva neanche un mese ed era senza vaccinazioni. Quando qualcuno si avvicinava per fare dei complimenti, Sara scappava via nel timore che la toccassero. E poi Annalisa non sapeva neanche dov'era. Potevamo mettergli davanti al naso un pony, un pagliaccio, o una zucca che per lei era la stessa cosa...c'era sola una cosa che voleva davanti al naso.

Annalisa's First Birthday

Happy Birthday Annalisa! We made it through her first year and can't believe how fast it's come and gone. God has taught us so much this year through her life and given us great joy in sharing this time with her.
Annalisa celebrated 3 times this year with friends, neighbors, and a special day with just us. On the actual day of her birthday, we took her to the mall and she ate her first cookie and rode in the ice-cream truck. We weren't sure how she'd react to the cookie so we only got 2 of them and split them between the 3 of us, but it was more like Massy and I split one and she ate the other. She couldn't get enough.

A few days late we had a little party at the house with some of the neighbors. She did great and absolutely loved being the center of attention. She gets that from her Zio Marco and Uncle Tim because it definitely doesn't come from Massy or me.

Finally she celebrated with church friends at the Oil Ranch. It was supposed to be at the splash park, but I kind of messed that up and scheduled it the same day as our class was going to the oil ranch. Thankfully, Mariana helped bail me out and suggested we celebrate at the Oil Ranch and it worked perfectly. Thanks for the suggestion, Hughes!!

Hurricane Annalisa

Life is finally almost back to normal...We got internet/phone/cable this weekend and Massy starts back to work this week. Fortunately for us we only had to go without electricity for 1 night. Our good friends Pete & Angie just bought a new house that never lost power and though they hadn't moved in yet they said we were welcome to come sleep on their floor. Massy & I decided we could "rough" it and started to stay here, but about 30 min after we put Annalisa down she woke up crying and all sweaty. Massy went in to calm her down and it wasn't working well. Needless to say we called Pete and all three of us got a great night's sleep, Thanks Pete.
With a week off, we also had some extra time on our hands so Massy decided to make a video of Annalisa walking. If you're not family it may be a little long to watch (It's NINE minutes long after being edited!!!) so you may just want to enjoy the picture above. I do have to say that Massy did an excellent job on the video though. He spent a lot of time editing it, and I'm really impressed.

Hurricane Ike

L'ultima settimana e' stata una settimana lunga. I due giorni successivi all'uragano abbiamo sudato parecchio per sistemare i danni. E comunque rispetto a tanti altri i nostri "danni" erano sciochezze: un albero decimato, 3 centimetri di acqua nel garage, un buchetto nel tetto, la cassetta della posta rotta e 36 ore senza luce. In un paio di giorni ci siamo risistemati. Adesso aspettiamo che ci ricolleghino il telefono, internet e la TV. Il resto della settimana lo abbiamo passato rilassandoci, camminando nel quartiere, girato in bici e correndo dietro ad Annalisa. Ci rimaneva ben poco da fare visto che nel campo di tennis ci sono un paio di alberi, che in strada non si puo andare (senza semafori e' un casino), e siamo senza TV ed interenet. Comunque non possiamo lamentarci visto quello che e' successo nell'altra parte della citta'...e dopo tutto ho passato una settimana con Sara e Annalisa.

Play Time

Annalisa is getting so big. She is 11 months now and it seems like yesterday that she was a newborn. I think about when I went to various play dates with her, and I just carried her in the Baby Bjorn. It seemed like it would be forever before she actually every "played". Now she is playing with her new friends below (Griffin, Yasmin, Jakelin, & Joshy). She even climbs up the little stairs and goes down the slide (on her tummy) all by herself. It's amazing how fast time flies.
Joshy is Annalisa's very first friend. They were born 2 days apart, and we (our families) all met when they were just a couple weeks old. It's neat how God brought Josh's family into our live's at just the perfect time.

Prima Pulizia dei Denti

Annalisa ha quattro denti, due sotto e due sopra, di cui uno sanguinante dopo la caduta di ieri. Chiedete alla nonna Pia come sia successo visto che si e' vista la scena in diretta su Skpe.
Comunque, anche se un po' dolorante (o finta dolorante), oggi le abbiamo lavato i denti per la prima volta e devo dire che e' andata meglio di come me lo immaginavo. Forse perche' le piace il gusto del dentifricio. Il dramma e' stato far riprendere il tutto con la telecamera alla Sarah. Infatti, non avendo molta pratica ha combinato un macello! Quando ho guardato il video mi e' venuto il mal di testa perche' continuava a girare la videocamera da un fianco e dall'altro, e sono rimasto quasi sordo dopo che ha tossito sul microfono un paio di volte.
Comunque siamo riusciti a ritoccare il video con windows movie maker e alla fine non e' venuto cosi' male.

Questa estate, Sara, Annalisa ed io siamo stati in Italia per 22 giorni. Abbiamo trascorso una splendida vacanza. Io e Sara ci siamo rilassati e approffitato di tutte le babysitters disponibili. Annalisa si e’ goduta le numerose attenzioni di parenti e amici. Al rientro ci siamo resi conto della differenza tra avere e non avere un aiuto con Annalisa. E’ stata dura riabituarci a solo noi tre. Per tre settimane dovevamo solo prepararla alla mattina e poi i nonni si arrangiavano di tutto. Comunque dopo l’impatto dei primi giorni abbiamo ripreso la nostra routine e tutto procede per il meglio.

Con questo blog vogliamo tenervi aggiornati su quello che succede nella nostra vita. La Sara scrivera’ in inglese (cosi’ potete fare un po’ di pratica con la lingua), ed io in italiano (cosi’anchio faccio pratica che me sembra di essermi dimenticato di come si scrive...no che prima fossi uno scrittore!). Voi siete invitati a commentare gli annunci, un’altra modo per tenerci in comunicazione oltre a Skype and email.

My brother-in-law has a Ducati motorcycle and if you don't know a lot about motorcycles (like me) they are famous for their speed. I went riding with him one day and held on for dear life. I wasn't crazy about going around curves; I felt like we were going to tip over. He also has a little scooter that he bought many years ago when he first got his license. We went riding on that too and I think I liked it better.

It's our first official post and coincidentally we're also in Italy. We'll be here for 3 weeks total visiting Massy's family and introducing Annalisa to her relatives. It's been wonderful and relaxing although the time change has really done a number on Annalisa. She's always been such a great night time sleeper, but since we've been here she's been waking up an average of 2 times a night. HELP!!! We feel like we have a newborn, but thankfully we have so much family here to help that during the day Massy & I sometimes don't even know what to do with ourselves. Here Massy, Marco (my brother-in-law), Annalisa and I went to go check out a soccer tournament that Massy wanted to play in. Sometimes he thinks he's still young :)

Hello...or should I say, buongiorno!

I have been pleading with Sarah to start a blog for a very, very LONG time. She finally caved...This blog will be like any other: photos and updates of the baby, but with italian flare. Oh, and it goes without saying, but little Annalisa is the cutest thing you've ever seen (well...second cutest) ;). So world, I introduce you to Massy, Sarah and Annalisa...enjoy!
